UMKC is now collecting membership fees from Juniors for 2008. The membership fee is $80, and will grant you membership to the University of Melbourne Kendo Club, the Victorian Kendo Renmei, the Australian Kendo Renmei, and your kendo will be recognized in other kendo clubs affiliated with the All Japan Kendo Federation worldwide. Membership to the AKR/VKR allows you to participate in competitions, gradings, seminars, various other kendo events, and you will receive voting privelages at the AKR and VKR AGMs. Furthermore, you will receive the same voting privelages for the UMKC AGM usually held in April, and you will be eligible to stand for election for an office-bearing position. Calling for Expressions of Interest for the 2008 AUG Team
The 2008 Australian University Games are in a little over 4 months time. They will be held in Melbourne this year, between the 29th of September and the 3rd of October (during the mid-semester break). The kendo competition will be on the 1st.

No accommodation or transportation has been organized by the Sports Association, and the committee is reviewing the subsidy of the $145 registration fee. It is therefore likely that successful team members will not need to pay anything.

The UMKC AUG team has 10 positions open to kyu grades (of which a minimum of three must be girls), and unlimited dan positions. Positions are open to current Melbourne University students only. Additionally, juniors are not eligible to try out. If there are more candidates than positions, a series of tryout competitions will be held to decide the team.

It is time to seriously consider whether you would like to try out for this year's team.

UMKC is now calling for all expressions of interest in this year's AUG team. If you are a current Melbourne University student and are interested, please send an email to myself. The deadline for expressions is the 16th of July.

A minimum level of commitment will be expected from team members and candidates, including a high attendance rate to both regular trainings and compulsory extra team trainings.

UMKC is also looking for a Team Manager to organize and manage the team, and a Team Coach to conduct trainings and act as mentor to the team.

Any questions, please send an email.

Tenugui available for purchase
As the beginners will be donning men armour in the very near future, please make sure you purchase a tenegui (japanese head towel) in advance.

Tenegui are seven dollars a piece and please see either Jordain, Viet or myself before training to buy.

If you have your own tenegui, feel free to use that instead of purchasing a brand new one.
