20th Anniversary applications
Thank you for the interest shown so far in the UMKC 20th Anniversary Celebrations.

We are now calling for official bookings and entries for our Tournament and Dinner. Both these events will take place on Saturday 23 May, the Tournament running from about 12.30 to 5.00 pm, and the Dinner venue open from 6.00 pm, serving meals from about 6.30.

The attached spreadsheet should be used for both events, and should be forwarded to Michael Dunn: mdunn AT umkc.org.au, no later than the evening of Sunday 10 May. Payments must also be made by this date.

As numbers are limited preference will be given to early entries, and refunds will be given to those who miss out.

Further information about these two events below:

Tournament:

The UMKC 20th Anniversary Kendo Tournament will be held on the afternoon of Saturday 23 May. West Stadium, Melbourne University Sports Centre.

We currently envisage having 4 Divisions – up to 3rd kyu, 1st & 2nd kyu, 1st & 2nd Dan, 3rd & 4th Dan. The event is open to all VKR/AKR members. The planned format is have 4 pools of 3 in each division, with the top 2 from each division going through to the next division.

Depending on the numbers the format may be changed to a straight knockout format to accommodate more competitors.

Shinpan for the "Up to 3rd Kyu" division will be drawn from the 1st & 2nd Dan" division, and Shinpan for the "1st & 2nd Kyu" division will be drawn from the "3rd & 4th Dan" division.

Senior VKR Members will be invited to Shinpan the two Dan Grade divisions.

Due to time and space constraints overall numbers will be limited, hopefully split 50/50 between UMKC members and other VKR/AKR members, so get your entries and payments in early! (Closing date Sunday 10th May)

Spectators most welcome, of course.

UMKC Camp 2009
The Annual UMKC Camp will be held on the weekend of May 1st-3rd, in Ballarat once again.

-----------
- Details -
Dates: Friday 1st of May, 5:00pm, to Sunday 3rd of May, 5:00pm
Price: $90
Deadline for payments: 20th of April
----------

The camp is a rare opportunity to fast-track your kendo learning, as well as an opportunity to socialise with your fellow kendoka, both at UMKC and other clubs too. Though a challenging camp, you will immediately notice a huge difference in skill and stamina between those who attended the camp, and those who didn't. In the past, the camp has also been an opportunity to learn rare kendo techniques and practices, from massive go-ju-dan waza to gyaku doh and even jodan. The camp integrates the club and many new friendships are created between beginners, juniors, and seniors, with the dormitory-style accomodation, the 'Iron-Chef' cookoff, and plenty free time to mingle. In any case, this camp is an excellent opportunity to advance your kendo careers.

The camp will be $90 for all attendees, which will cover accommodation; transport; breakfast, lunch, dinner (except for Friday night); and venue hire.

We will require drivers to help carpool our members to and from Ballarat. The club will cover your petrol costs. We will also require keen chefs who would like to cook for the masses. Your ingredients will be covered by the club!

Please note that beginners will require their own shinai for the camp. Uniform will not be necessary but is recommended.

If you would like to attend the camp, then please write your name down on the Camp list at training, and pay the money box. Alternatively, please fill in the form in the email sent around. The deadline for payments is the 20th of April. If you have any problems meeting the payment, please send an email.

If you have any questions please send an email.
