AUG: Call for Interest
The Australian University Games will return to the sunny Gold Coast in 2009. It will be held in late September, during the 2nd week of mid-semester holidays. The focus of the AUG is the kendo competition, which UMKC always performs strongly in, but there will be plenty of time to holiday. The team will stay in the Gold Coast for 4 days, 3nights, which leaves time afterwards to catch up on assignments and study.

Successful candidates will be required to attend compulsory teamtrainings on Friday mornings. Also, team breakfasts and dinners will serve to bond (or coagulate, as I like to call it) the team together.

A conservative price tag of $750 has been set, but will likely decrease substantially with subsidies and adjustments.

*We are now calling for all interested candidates to compete in this year's AUG. Candidates must be current students of Melbourne Uni.

*Please email your interest to Viet Hoang (vhoang00 AT gmail DOTcom) with name and current grade.

*Deadline for interest is Wednesday, 17th of June.

If you have any queries please email me.

Calling for Volunteers to assist in the 20th Anniversary

The club is currently calling for volunteers to assist at the UMKC 20th Anniversary this Saturday, May 23. We need people to assist with setting up competition grounds, seatings, act as scorers etc and to help with other tasks. Whilst for some tasks we require senior members, for others, it's a good opportunity for juniors to gain some competition experience.

As such, if you can make yourself available from 11am Saturday till around 6pm and are willing to do so, please send an email to the committee at enquiries AT umkc.org.au. All help will be greatly appreciated.

Of Memberships and Monash Gashuku
Just a couple of important reminders and issues for this and next week.

1. The Monash Gashuku registration deadline is this Wednesday, May 20 as was mentioned in our previous newsletter. It's a big opportunity to heighten your kendo skills if you can attend so it's very worthwhile considering :). Also, if there are any participants who can drive, could you please contact the committee as we are currently trying to organize transportation for everyone? Thanks.

2. Club memberships are due next Monday, May 25. This is VERY IMPORTANT. After that, no more forms will be accepted by MUSA so please remember to submit yours by the due date. Memberships are highly essential if you wish to continue kendo in the long run.

Camp Feedback

Now that the camp is over, what did you think?

What was great about it; what could have been better?

Was it value for your money?

Do you think your kendo has improved?

Will you go again next year?

Offer your opinion on these or anything else about camp at UMKC's forum: http://z2.invisionfree.com/UMKC_Forum/index.php?showtopic=962&st=0&#last

Remember to sign up to the forum if you haven't already!

Memberships, 20th Anniversary, Late Camp Payments
Just a couple of important club matters that everyone should be alerted to:

1. Club memberships are due Monday, May 25. The forms are attached to
the email sent around and will also be prepared and placed beside the coin box
during training. Please remember to complete and submit them by the
due date. The payment is $80. It is a rather important thing to be an
official club member of UMKC because of the following reasons:

- You automatically become a member of MUSA, AKR and VKR and have
voting rights,
- You get to participate in competitions
- The membership allows you to do gradings and receive international
kendo recognition
- It provides you with insurance by the Sports Union

Please note that the forms are separated in 'student' and
'non-student'. Remember to fill in the appropriate one.

2. The UMKC 20th Anniversary registrations and payments are due May
10, Sunday. If you are unable to attend training to write your name
down on the list and pay, please email mdunnATumkc.org.au and direct
debit into the UMKC account. The payment is $40 for the dinner and $10
for the tournament.

UMKC account details are:

Commonwealth Bank
BSB No: 063238
Acct No: 00903203
Acct name: University of Melbourne Kendo Club

3. Finally, not all camp payments have been received yet so for camp
participants who have yet to pay, please to so as soon as possible.
