2010 Inaugural Beginner's Tournament!

On Sunday 14th March 2010 marked the start of a new Annual Kendo Tournament in Victoria.
Tournament contestants comprised of kendoka who have only practiced kendo up to one year.


The following are the results:

1st place - Richard T'en (UMKC)
2nd place - Nick Chan (Monash)
3rd places - Daniel Huang (UMKC), Vincent Lai (UMKC)
Fighting Spirit Award - Nor Farhana Mohd Fauzy (UMKC)

Congratulations to all those who received awards!

Special Thanks to Yakov Sensei for organising and conducting this event.
Also we would like to especially thank Yano Sensei for heading the judging at the tournament.
Thank you Fujiwara Sensei for helping with judging.

To all the seniors who were shinpan for the tournament, thank you very much! This tournament would have not been possible without you.

Thanks to all the people who volunteered with setting up and packing up, your help is extremely valuable to everyone.

Last of all, Thanks to all the spectators who came and watched, showing your support really gives the competitors the courage and the will to fight on.

Kendo Novice Tournament
A tournament for kendo beginners will be help this Sunday, March 14th at the Kenshikan.

Members are invited to come and help out, spectators are welcome. Come along and support our UMKC competitors.

Competitors should arrive by 1:00pm for registration.

Venue: Kenshikan, 91 Rosslyn St West Melbourne.

Please note: Kendo training times at UMKC this week only will be -

Monday 6th March: 5:30 - 7:30 pm

Wednesday 10th March: 5:30 - 7:30 pm

Starting from 18th March We will be operating under the new training times of Monday 5:30 - 7:30 pm and Thursday 5:00 - 6:30 pm

Please note that the 2010 Beginners course will start on Monday 8th March at 5:30pm on the West Stadium. The cost of the course will be $60.

NEW training times
From March 2010 onwards UMKC will have a new training schedule. The new schedule will be:
  • Monday 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
  • Wednesday 7:00 am - 8:30 am (Friday Mornings now shifted to Wednesday mornings)
  • Thursday 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Please take note of these changes
