The Victorian Kendo Championships will be held on the 25th and 26th of August at Victoria University. The information brochure is attached for your information, with further details to come.
The divisions include: Kyu Individual Women's Individual Open Individual Junior Individual (under 16) Veteran Individual
And the team divisions include: Kyu Team (5 people) Women's Team (3 people) Open Team (5 people) Kata Pairs
The entrance fee this year is $20 per person, and team events will be paid for by the club. Only VKR members are eligble to compete.
According to the rules, each player may only enter a maximum of one individual division and one team division (except for kata pairs).
Teams will be selected on the day, but you can enter an individual division now.
If you would like to compete in the VKC, you must: 1. Email to us your - Full Name, - Grade, - Age, - Individual Division. (All details are necessary, please do not leave any out).
2. Pay your entry fee of $20 at training to the special collections box, and mark that you've paid. (We will not be accepting netbank for this payment.)
Your name and payment MUST be made by Saturday, 11th August. (this is a hard deadline).
Volunteers, AUG Competitors, and this week's Morning Trainings
Three notices:
Volunteers needed for demonstrations
1. Clubs Day, Thursday 26th July, 10am-4pm (this Thursday). Volunteers are needed to help promote the club and for a demonstration.
2. Demonstration for Eltham East Primary School, Thursday 2nd August, 2:45pm-3:15pm. Volunteers are needed to help demonstrate to 500 students for their culture day.
3. Melbourne University Open Day, Sunday 19th August, 12:00pm-12:30pm. Volunteers are needed to help demonstrate to prospective students. We will be representing sport and clubs at the University of Melbourne.
Please let me know if you are able to help. First year juniors are able and encouraged to assist.
Australian University Games Competitors
Competition training has already begun. All those applying for the AUG must attend all trainings from now on, including morning trainings. If you are unable to attend a training, please let me know.
Morning Training for this week
There is NO Wednesday morning training this week. There will only be a Friday morning training.
Morning Training, Ballarat, Promoting, and Jackets

Ballarat 25th Anniversary Celebration The Ballarat Kendo Club will be turning 25 this Sunday, making it the 2nd oldest club in Victoria. They will be celebrating with demonstrations and keiko, and the event will be televised on local stations. Everyone is welcome to attend the celebrations and join in the keiko in the end. The venue is the Ballarat Secondary College Assembly Hall corner Fussell St and Victoria St, Ballarat and the program will be conducted between 2 – 4 p.m. http://www.facebook.com/events/454953037859028/
Welcome Back Week The Club will be holding a table on Thursday, the 26th of July. Volunteers are needed to help promote the club and to perform a short demonstration. Please let me know if you are able to help.
Jackets and Zekken The jackets and zekken have been available for a few weeks now. To avoid clogging up the storeroom, please collect your items as soon as possible.
Just a reminder that the Nagae and Otsuka taikais are this Saturday. We are waiting on further details - including times - from the Kenshikan, so stay tuned.
This week we have a unique situation: there will be morning training on Wednesday morning AND Friday morning.
The "Great MUKEN Challenge" has you attending Wednesday morning, Thursday evening, Friday morning, and then the Taikais on Saturday. Are you brave enough to take up this challenge?
Just a reminder that morning training for this week has been moved to Friday. There will be no Wednesday morning training this week (tomorrow).
All those who wish to compete in the upcoming Nagae/Otsuka Taikai, VKC, and AUG, should attend the morning training; Kenji has something prepared for us. Juniors are encouraged to attend also.
Additionally, if you're finding it a little cold this Winter, you ought to come this Thursday - a spot of training will really warm you up.
